The Present

The Restoration Plan

We are aiming to restore the house as far as possible to its original state. This will include the reinstatement of the eighteenth century Lanscroon mural onto the walls and ceiling of the entrance hall and the restoration of the carved balustrade and ramped handrail belonging to the original staircase.

The Restoration Plan

The panelling and architectural detail, at present in storage, that were rescued from the first and subsequent fires, will also be returned to the restored interior.

We hope we can restore the exterior of the building to its elegant nineteenth century design, without the mock Tudor facade which was the result of a "style makeover" in the 1930s.

The original core of the house was extended in different styles over a number of centuries resulting in a unique record of architectural development. Our 21st century annex would provide an appropriate addition to this historic progression.

The regeneration of Broomfield House is contingent upon finding a satisfactory solution to the parking problems that currently constrain the accessibility of the site. The main objective is the safety of all road and park users, especially pedestrians.

The proposed design solutions would improve driver visibility, reduce traffic speed and enhance pedestrian safety. It includes traffic calming measures and pedestrian facilities. Improved access would effectively remove the hazard, created by the archway, of pedestrians not being visible to drivers leaving the park.

The bulk of parking requirements would be met by a surface layout of marked bays within the stable yard. General parking within the avenue is not considered compatible with pedestrian amenity.

Service and delivery vehicles would be provided with a dedicated unloading area at the side of the House. Disabled parking spaces would be provided opposite the house and within the stable yard.

A green travel plan to encourage alternatives to the car would be supported by the provision of secure cycle parking spaces.
