Happy Childhood Days

I spent very many happy hours in Broomfield Park and House. I loved the huge hothouse too and was always in there noting the lovely perfumes. I like the museum too and getting an ice cream downstairs. Frequently i cycled around the park on my pavement bike and spent a lot of time around the boating pool which I wish I still had here as near in the New Forest where I am now. It was always such a happy and easy place to go and many days too I would feed the ducks and the swans. On school days i would walk home from Palmers Green High School through the park to Powys Lane where we lived. I dont seem to walk nearly that distance these days. There were also the Saturday pony rides from the stables in Blagdens Lane at Southgate and where I first learned to ride, sometimes with ponies getting tangled round lamposts and kindly pedestrians helping out. And of course there was the summer gymkhana and how I wished I could take part like one or two of the girls from school. Before I was 18 we moved to West Sussex where father wanted to go, and there I had excellent riding tuition with Esme Jack who was well known in dressage circles and who was a wonderful teacher. I hope to get back one day to cast around. I remember excitedly buying a stamp album in Robsons way up Green Lanes and imagine my surprise when I saw a shop of the same name in Brockenhurst and it was the same Mr. Robson. However, he has retired here in the last couple of years
