Memories

Putting

Back in the 70's as young teenagers my brother and I would regularly use the Broomfield Park putting green. Does anyone else remember it? It was behind and around the tennis courts. It had a full 18 holes and some were quite tricky! (Avoiding the ball racing past the hole and onto the bowling green being one problem...) The club and ball were hired from the grumpy attendent inside a little window of the picturesque wooden pavilion by the tennis courts. (That building later being another victim of mindless arsonists). After our Sunday morning putting round, we'd follow up by a snack at the little cafe at the rear of Broomfield House. I guess it was simple stuff, but it sticks in your mind... I wonder what today's children will look back on in years to come?
