Honey Bees

As children in the 1960s, we used to go to the museum at Broomfield House all the time as it was in our local park. We loved the stuffed animals and birds and the pull out drawers of butterflies - a real 'Victorian' collection which probably would be frowned upon now. In the other room, there were clothing displays and our absolute favourite - a flat container with glass on both sides in which lived a hive of bees, connected to the outside world by a glass tube. There was a barrier around the case with a rail just the right height for us little ones to stand on and stare at the busy hive.

I also remember a very grand staircase with murals. In the back of my mind I seem to remember there was a baby clinic upstairs which my Mum always complained about as she said the museum was accessible downstairs and she had to lug the baby upstairs!
