Features To Find

The Victorian Conservatory:

This contains a water fall, fish pond and a display of unusual plants from all over the world. Bananas can sometimes be seen growing in the conservatory during the summer months.

 The Bandstand:

This was built on the lower lake during 1928.  In the past many well-known local bands performed here, including the Edmonton Town band and the Tramway band.  The Bandstand is still in use today and summer concerts take place in the holiday period. To find out more check out events

 The Herbaceous Border:

This is an original feature and is one of the longest in North London. Herbaceous borders are long narrow beds containing  perennial flowering plants ( these plants die down each year to ground level and grow again during the spring /summer).  This is a typical feature of Victorian gardening.  The border wall also features climbing roses.

 The Garden of Remembrance:

This was constructed in 1928 as a memorial to the Southgate men who gave up their lives in the Great War.  An opening ceremony was held on the 7th July 1928. The garden contains a pond and an ornamental pergola ( this is known as the Pergola Walk).  The garden also houses the memorial cair constructed of 280 stones and erected in remembrance of those men who died the base of the cairn are the words " Each stone  symbolises a life laid down".  The commemorative plaques remember the local men who lost their lives in two wars.

 The Sensory Garden:

This is situated near the Remembrance Garden is of particular interest to people with visual impairment.  This garden has a border of mixed ornamental shrubs and herbs, each chosen for their distinct aroma and touch.

 The Aviary:

This is home to a number of colourful birds of various species including quails, parrots and finches.  It is open for viewing  during park hours.

The Coronation Gates:

Bears the Royal Coat if Arms along with wrought iron ornamental fencing was installed in Alderman's Hill in 1953 to commemorate the Coronation of HM Queen Elizabeth II and the Fiftieth Anniversary of the purchase of Broomfield Park by the Council. There is also a plaque set into the wall nest to the gates showing some of the sports activities taking place at that time.
