BROOMFIELD HOUSE UPDATE – 21 August 2003

Formal consultation on the full planning application continues, based on the scheme on view last September in Safeway in Palmers Green.

You may inspect the scheme proposals at the Civic Centre or Palmers Green Library. The planning committee will consider the application in late September.

The House will open again as part of the popular Evening Standard Open House event on 20/21 September – from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day.

For those who may be unaware of the Task Force plans, the scheme proposes the re-construction of the heritage building with the future management undertaken by a Trust body. Several rooms will be provided for community use, and there will be substantial educational resources as well as a park café and function room that will support the running costs of the house.

The stable yard area will be resurfaced to provide about 40 car parking spaces accessed from the historic arch in Broomfield Lane, with road improvements at the entrance to ensure the safety of pedestrians and vehicles.

The success of the scheme will rely upon an appropriate modification of the park covenants and byelaws. This will permit the necessary income generating community-based activities and hours of operation. These modifications will themselves be the subject of consultation this autumn once the planning application has been considered.

We hope that once all this has been achieved, a successful lottery application and fundraising campaign will turn what has been an eyesore into a valuable local community resource.

Broomfield House will also feature in the BBC 2 series “Restoration” on 9 September at 9 p.m.

The public will be invited to choose from 3 properties: Wiltons Music Hall, Darnleys Mausoleum and Broomfield House.

The one with the most votes cast on 8/9/10 September progresses to a live final on Sunday 14 September from the Tower of London.

The overall winner will be restored with help from the BBC. Vote for Broomfield House phone 0901 077 77 77
