BROOMFIELD HOUSE UPDATE – April 2004

In March 2004 Enfield Councillors confirmed that a contribution of at least £1 Million is to be reserved for investment into this £ 4.5 M project.

On 21 October 2003 a major milestone on the path towards the restoration of Broomfield House was reached when planning consent was obtained for the community-based scheme of the Broomfield House Task Force. When the restoration is completed, Broomfield House will be returned to its role as the focal point in Broomfield Park, and provide social and educational facilities for the enjoyment of our diverse community. Many of Broomfield House's original features including the magnificent Lanscroon mural are in storage ready for re-instatement.

The Task Force Chairman, Stephen Twigg MP, is delighted to announce that Lord Puttnam, Lord Winston and Lord Graham have recently agreed to be patrons. The Broomfield House Restoration Fund has already secured a substantial contribution from a trust fund set up by a couple who live in the Enfield area. Further fundraising initiatives are proposed shortly to raise in excess of £ 2M towards the overall target.

The Jackson family who were instrumental in making major alterations to the House in the 18th century, including the well-known Lanscroon mural. Direct descendents of this family and the Powys Lybbe family from whom the building was purchased in 1903 have both confirmed their interest and support to the project.

An application to the Heritage Lottery Board for a development grant to progress audience and accessibility studies is to be made. The submission of a Stage 1 bid to HLF will follow.
