- It is said that James the 1st used Broomfield as a hunting lodge.
- Metal Hooks thought to have been used for hanging the venison from the hunt can still be seen on the main entrance gate.
- The yachting pond was constructed in 1903 for model boats and remains a feature that is regularly used by the Broomfield Model Boat Club today.
- One of the larger lakes, out of three was used for swimming and bathing up until 1913.
- In 1920 the hard courts for tennis were provided
- In 1921 the first bowling green was opened.
- During the Great War (1914-1918) the playing fields were ploughed up and used for growing potatoes. The area of the Sports Stadium including the terraced embankment is still in use today and was originally gravel pits.
- In 1951, the ash running track was re-furbished. A number of famous athletes, including Roger Bannister, the first man to run the 4 minute mile, have used the track.
- The track was then grassed over in 1965. The first Football match was actually a local team against Ipswich Town, incidentally who are now in the football league.
